Galley Shelf ???

I couldn't find the rods that twist, so I purchased the spring tension rods. Will they work? Or should I keep looking for the ones that twist? Thanks for your help.

RE: Used Choices

If you find one with the floor plan that you are looking for you should go ahead and purchase it. We purchased our back in April and didn't get to use it until the 1st of August. The good one sale fast. Good Luck.

RE: Maiden Voyage here we come!

Congratulation. Your TT will become your second home, So if you like to use it at home get a second one for the camper. Or purchase a new for home and use the old one in the camper. I now own two of just about everything. I have also made list for packing for a trip using the list found on this site as a guide and then I put it in a sheet protector and use a dry erase pen to mark things off as I go.

RE: Need tips on PUP longevity

The main thing is to keep it clean and make repairs quickly. We purchased a like new 2005 Jayco 1206 in April and love it. I hope that you don't get carried away with the idea that you need to upgrade. PUPs are great campers and depending on the style of camping you do, a PUP may be perfect for your family. A few year ago we moved quickly up the RV ladder to a TT and now we are back in a PUP. I wish we had purchased the PUP we have now back then. We could have saved ourselves alot of money.

RE: 3 unsolicited offers to buy my PUP

When we first sold our TT and started our search for a PUP a dealer told me that the HTT had really hurt PUP sells and the they only keep a few in stock but they could order what ever I wanted. I don't think that is the case now because I have driven by his dealership and he has plenty of PUPs to choice from.

RE: Ironing board table legs

I think the reason they use the ironing board style table is so you can use it outside. My DH likes that style best. But I would never dream of using our table outside. Our TT had the chrome pole table and it could be a pain to set back up.

RE: Black Water Tank still reading FULL after dumping...

We had the same problem with our black tank sensors. Purchase a flush king or used a wand to rinse the tank. And after you dump the tank add the chemicals of your choice and about 10 gals of water before leaving for home. That way the chemicals and water can help clean the tank. Also make sure that the tank is full before you empty it, if you need to add more water to fill it up. This helps make sure all the solids are flushed out of the tank.

RE: Rollin up the ground cover

We use a RV rug that we purchased at Wal mart at the beach. It is easy to clean and very light weight. We just strap it to the bumper of the PUP. On our last trip my DS tracked red mud on it and when we got home I just hosed it off. The other RV rug that we have holds dirt really bad. We would keep it in a tote on the back of the truck.

RE: How beneficial is a slide out dinette?

When we decided to sale our TT and go with a PUP we knew we wanted one with a slideout. We purchased a Jayco 1206 and love it. The floor space it great. And the 1206 has lots of storage area. I don't think you would regret getting one with a slide.

RE: Loading up for trip

We were also spoiled by the TT. But after our first trip in our PUP I think it was easier to use a cooler instead of loading up the TT frig. No lugging everything out to the TT and putting it away and then lugging what was left back into the house and putting it away. When we had the TT my DH said that I would take everything but the kitchen sink. Which is probably true. But now I only take what we will use. IMO being organized is the key to enjoying camping in a PUP. Had our first PUP been like the one we have now I don't think we would have ever purchased a TT. I hope that you are as happy with your decision to leave the TT and go with a PUP as we are. :)

RE: What should we get started on?

I think that a PUP is the way to go. We started out in a small PUP, then went to a HTT, then to a TT and now we are back in a PUP. A Jayco 1206 that we tow with a Trail Blazer. Ours didn't come with a bathroom so I purchased a porta potti for emergencies. We have most of our camping gear stored in the PUP, so packing up to go camping isn't a big deal. Mainly just food and clothes. IMO a PUP is easier than the TT we owned because I don't over pack it with food and clothes that I just have to take out again once we are back home and it is much easier to clean after a trip. And towing the PUP is very easy. My DH didn't like towing the Big TT. We had thought about a Class C but with gas prices the way they are it wasn't worth it. We mainly camp on weekends and the PUP is perfect for that. Good luck.

RE: Thoughts on stepping down to Pup

We went from a TT to a PUP. We used it for the first time this past weekend. Other than a few organizing issues it was great. For me it was easier than the TT, because I only had to pack the clothes and food once. With the TT I would always take too much stuff. If you like the outdoors feeling you get from tent camping you will love a PUP.

RE: Air conditioners

I wouldn't camp in SC without one. We were camping last weekend and it was a 102 degrees. But with the A/C the PUP was very comfortable.

RE: after 2 seasons...bye bye PUP.....

We went form a PUP to a HTT to a TT and now back to a PUP. We prefer a PUP for many reasons. And I for one will tell you that the beds in a HTT are a pain to make up. I never found and easy way to do that and I don't like sleeping in a sleeping bag. And as far a loading goes, with the PUP I am forced to be more organized. I always took way to much food and stuff with the HTT and TT. When we had the HTT, and the TT I would spend hours cleaning it when we got back from a camping trip. And that didn't include cleaning the outside. We went to the HTT to make it easier to go camping to but found that wasn't the case. I did enjoy having a bathroom but even that has it downsides. So much so that my DH wouldn't hear of having a Bathroom in the PUP. I had to get a porta potty.:) I would rather clean a 3 gal tank than a 20 gal tank any day. If we had purchased the PUP (jayco 1206) we have now first we wouldn't have moved up to the HTT or the TT. Oh well it's just money. Good luck.

RE: Planning meals for a group camping trip.

Thanks for all the tips. I think it will work best to do breakfast and lunch on our own and then get together for dinner. I think it is also a good idea for each family to provide their own meat and a side. :)

Planning meals for a group camping trip.

We will be camping in a couple of weeks with some friends, there will be four camp sites in all. What is the best way to plan meals for a group? Thanks for your help.

RE: Gas Prices stopping you from RV'ing

No, the gas prices haven't slowed us down any. But they did make us change directions. We sold our TT, thinking that we would go back with a class C. But with gas prices so high and the fact that our son is about to go away to college with decided to go back with a PUP. And we couldn't be happier. My DH hated pulling the TT anyway. Now I can help with the driving.:)

RE: recommendations for toilet chemicals?

I used TST that is available at Wal Mart. And I also used Scott's. The main thing is to put about 5 to 10 gallons of water in the tank before using it. And make sure that it is at least 2/3 full before dumping it. Even if you have to add water to the tank to get it to that level. And after you empty the tank put in your chemicals and about 5 gals. of water. Good luck.
